"Mother died today. Or may be yesterday, I can't be sure...." he started second novel in recent time.
It was hot May morning. Sun spreading as much hotness he can but Earth decided to rotate slowly. For the boy Earth has different plans. It was a result day and in the midst of words, boy just forgot.
"Hey, wake up. Its your result." Father didn't.
Who cares.
"Are you awake?" Father inquired.
"Yeah." Son answerd.
"Come soon. We are waiting." said father and left son thinking.
What should be the result. Pass. Fail. Does it matter?
Novel closed. The Stranger, it named.
Boy completed his morning rituals.
"Come. honey, eat this. Its specially for today." Mother said delighted. Son expressed annoyed.
He ate and listened.
"Today is the day for your future. I wish you become.... blah blah blah..." Father. Excited
"Today, you will find your path to become..... blah blah blah..." Mother. Excited.
Son sat unexcited.
Break fast finished.
They told him to be confident and positive.
Confident? This word should be used at exams not at results.
"Do you want us to be with you?" Father said and he looked at him.
"Yeah, we all can go together." Mother said and he looked at her.
"No." Son said and both looked at him.
"Okay." All, became individuals.
Boy then went to school, collected the result.
Pass. 56.12 Second class.
He left the building.
"Hey." Someone shouted.
It was a known shout so the boy stopped. Sam, the friend.
"So, Hell or.." Friend paused " Hell?"
"What does that even mean?" Confused boy asked.
"See, If you get through, education will make your life, A HELL and if you stuck, neighbors will make your life, A HELL." Friend indeed explained well and continued "I personally prefer the first one." he answered. Boy yet to ask him about friend's preferences.
"And what will you prefer?"
"I wont prefer anything but yeah I got through." boy replied.
"I got 49 and you?" boy was cross examined with his friend.
"56."
"Not far though." both smiled.
They walk along in silence for few step until Sam asked "What will you do now?" he continued "I will do engineering. I will be the world's best Engineer." Again boy yet to ask anything.
"By looking at percentage, I think, its hard to join a good college." Boy asked now.
"Every good college accepts donation, my friend"
"Right. But it will be hard for you and risky, too." boy said thoughtfully.
"See, risk is everywhere and if things won't work. I'll take a turn. Like, your parents did."
"What?" boy look puzzled.
"Yeah, they did."
"How?" still puzzled.
"You are their only one, right?"
"Yeah."
"So, your parents risked their life to become parents and had you." Sam continued "And after having you, they used contraceptives coz you were their risk which didn't went well." Sam stopped and ran.
"Yoouuu..." boy started and ran behind Sam.
He grabbed Sam from the back of a neck.
"Sorry, Sorry.. I was just explaining risks." Same was tying to escape.
"To hell with you and to hell with your explanations."
"Okay, I surrender."
It was a simple friend's fight. Like say something funny about your friends and run.
They sat under the tree, over a bench near parking.
"Tell me genuinely, what will you do?" Sam asked
"Genuinely," boy paused "I don't know."
They sat few more minutes until Sam said "Got to go. Good news should never be kept as a secret."
They crossed school gate together and walked alone, after.
"Hey" Sam shouted from few meters away
"Hmmm" boy turned and replied.
"Does your parents still use contraceptives?"
Boy took a rock near him and threw towards Sam. Sam ran.
"People takes turn after failed risk." He said to himself. Alone was the road and Alone was his feelings.
He reached at home. Opened the glass door.
"Surprise." Mother and Father. Unison.
He looked at them. Looked himself.
Risk is everywhere.
